KOTA KINABALU — Api-Api State Assemblyman Loi Kok Liang and Tanjung Aru State Assemblyman Junz Wong Hong Jun stated that the National Lion Dance Coaching and Judging Training & Assessment Programme held from 1–2 May 2026 at RAIA Hotel Kota Kinabalu was successfully completed, with all participants passing the assessment.
Organised by the Persekutuan Sukan Tarian Singa Malaysia and supported by the Persekutuan Tarian Singa dan Naga Malaysia, the programme marked the first time such a course was conducted fully in Bahasa Malaysia.
Loi Kok Liang highlighted that conducting the course in the national language enhances accessibility and encourages participation from Malaysia’s diverse communities, strengthening cultural integration.
Junz Wong added that the programme represents a significant step toward the professionalisation of lion dance as a sport, with structured training and evaluation systems for coaches and judges.
Both leaders also welcomed Sabah being chosen as the first host location, noting that it reflects the state’s multicultural strength and potential in cultural and sports development.
They expressed appreciation to the organisers, trainers, and participants, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote both cultural heritage and sports excellence.
