MEDIA STATEMENT: 9 March 2026 - International Women’s Day 2026 – “Give to
Gain”
In conjunction
with International Women’s Day 2026, we embrace this year’s theme
“Give to Gain” which reflects the enduring principle that
progress is achieved when individuals and communities contribute
selflessly for the collective good. When we invest our time, talent
and compassion toward others, society as a whole grows stronger and
more resilient.
This theme is a
timely reminder that meaningful change requires continuous commitment
from all sectors. Governments, private industries, civil society
organizations and the public must work hand in hand throughout the
year to create opportunities, strengthen support systems and ensure
that women are empowered to reach their fullest potential in every
sphere of life.
In Penampang,
women have long demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. They
are the pillars that keep families united, workplaces productive,
religious institutions active and communities cohesive. Their
dedication and perseverance continue to shape the social fabric of
our district.
Equally
significant is the contribution of Penampang women to the domestic
economy. Across the district, women sustain livelihoods through
agriculture, cottage industries, retail enterprises, food and
beverage ventures, professional services as well as micro and
gig-based businesses. Their entrepreneurial spirit and
industriousness are vital drivers of local economic stability and
growth.
Penampang women
have also proven their ability to lead with excellence. Distinguished
individuals such as Jennifer Asing (former Principal of SM St Michael
Penampang) and Noemi Dyena John (President, Majlis Perbandaran
Penampang) exemplify the capability, dedication and leadership that
women bring to positions of responsibility and influence.
On behalf of
Wanita Warisan Penampang, I would like to extend my sincere
appreciation to Jeffrey Leiking, Division Chief and Christopher
Masudal, the party’s Strategic Communication Director. Under their
principled leadership, Wanita Warisan Penampang has been elevated to
a higher standing, emerging as one of the most prominent and
recognizable wings within the district.
The rise and
strong presence of Wanita Warisan Penampang is built upon teamwork,
strong work ethics and unwavering passion. These values continue to
guide our efforts to uplift Penampang in every aspect and restore its
standing as one of the leading districts in Sabah.
Nevertheless,
much work remains to be done. Greater efforts are needed to enhance
women’s upward mobility—ensuring more women can progress from
lower to higher socioeconomic positions through improved access to
education, fair income opportunities and stronger career advancement
pathways.
We also hope to
see greater participation from Penampang women, particularly among
Gen Z, in civic and community activism. Their engagement is essential
in strengthening accountability, improving governance and ensuring
that those entrusted with leadership continue to serve the district
with integrity and excellence.
As we
commemorate International Women’s Day this year, let us all
remember that by giving our commitment, energy and dedication to the
advancement of women and society, we ultimately gain a stronger, more
inclusive and more prosperous future for Penampang.
