Luyang Assemblyman Conducts Site Visit to Understand Situation and Ensure Traffic Relief Measures
Luyang Assemblyman Samuel Wong conducted a site visit to the Jalan Lintas road closure near BTC Heritage following numerous concerns raised by residents and parents regarding traffic congestion caused by the ongoing road upgrading works.
Samuel said his visit was carried out in a neutral and responsible capacity to genuinely understand the situation on the ground, listen to all stakeholders, and ensure appropriate measures are taken to minimise disruption to the public.
“My purpose of visiting the site is not to take sides, but to understand the actual situation, listen to feedback from residents, parents, road users, and also the contractor, so that practical solutions can be implemented in the best interest of the community,” he said.
He noted that traffic congestion is most significant during the Anglo Chinese School dismissal period between 12.00pm and 1.30pm, as well as during evening peak hours starting from 4.00pm when office workers return home. However, traffic flow improves after the school peak period.
Following discussions with the contractor, Samuel confirmed that full-day traffic controllers have been assigned to all critical congestion points and affected junctions to actively manage and assist traffic flow. Additional traffic management measures, including clearer signage, improved coordination, and on-site traffic monitoring, have also been implemented to reduce confusion among road users.
“I have also ensured that access to Luyang Hospital will not be affected. In the event of emergency ambulance movement, the traffic controllers stationed at the affected area will immediately carry out traffic control to give priority access and ensure emergency response is not delayed,” he said.
Samuel explained that the upgrading works include improvements to the three-way exit from the BTC road to the main Jalan Lintas, which will significantly improve traffic dispersal and reduce congestion once completed.
He added that he has obtained the contractor’s commitment to complete the upgrading works and reopen the affected road by the scheduled end of April. He also stressed that any roads in the surrounding neighbourhood damaged during construction must be properly repaired before the full reopening.
“Although such upgrading works will inevitably cause temporary inconvenience, they are necessary for long-term improvement of traffic flow and safety in the area. I hope the public can understand and bear with the situation during this period for the future benefit of the neighbourhood,” he said.
He assured that he will continue to monitor the progress closely and ensure the contractor remains committed to completing the project on schedule, while safeguarding the interests and daily needs of residents.
Samuel also urged road users to comply with traffic instructions, avoid illegal roadside parking, and cooperate with traffic personnel to help ensure smoother traffic flow and public safety throughout the construction period.
