LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu Member of Parliament, Mohammad Yusof Apdal personally inspected the collapsed road along the Tawau–Lahad Datu route, which previously caused traffic congestion from both directions.
During the visit, he also expressed appreciation to the contractor and relevant agencies for their swift action in carrying out restoration works, allowing the route to be reopened for public use.
Following the immediate repair efforts, the road was successfully reopened at around 6 p.m. yesterday, helping to restore smoother traffic flow for road users in the affected area.
“Today I had the opportunity to inspect the road that collapsed yesterday. Alhamdulillah, the responsible parties, especially the contractor, have carried out the work well in helping to restore this route.
“Although it has not fully returned to normal conditions, the road can now be used again and provides some relief and convenience to road users,” he said while visiting the site.
According to him, discussions were also held with the contractor to ensure that safety measures continue to be strengthened, particularly concerning the movement of heavy vehicles such as container lorries that frequently use the route.
He said the contractor had committed to conducting continuous 24-hour monitoring and carrying out resurfacing works in the near future to ensure the safety of road users at all times.
“They informed us that based on their experience, God willing, they will do their best to ensure this road remains safe for use, and resurfacing works will be carried out soon,” he said.
