Six Members of the State Assembly (ADUN) from the Warisan Party in Sandakan have submitted an official memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sandakan. This submission is a demand for the authorities to provide a comprehensive and immediate explanation regarding the delay in the investigation of individuals involved in the Sabah Mining Scandal.
The ADUNs involved in the submission of the memorandum include YB Calvin Chong, YB Lisa Alban, YB Alias Hj. Sani, Representative YB Arunanarsin Taib, YB Alex Wong, and YB Alex Thien. This action reflects the serious concerns of the elected representatives regarding the confidence of the people of Sabah in the enforcement institutions, which are seen as ineffective in addressing the corruption scandal involving high-profile political figures.
So far, the MACC's investigation into the scandal is seen as not commensurate with the seriousness of the issue involving more than 15 individuals, including senior state leaders. Only a small portion has been charged, while the status of the investigation against others remains unclear, raising questions about possible political interference.
The Warisan ADUNs from Sandakan demand that the MACC provide an updated report on the status of the investigation and explain the delay in action against other identified individuals. They also seek assurance that the investigation is conducted independently and professionally without political interference.
The delay in prosecuting the involved individuals raises concerns as there are parties still holding public office. This is considered unacceptable as it reflects a failure to uphold the principles of integrity and accountability.
The people of Sabah have the right to a clean and transparent government, and the failure to act against those involved will continue to tarnish the state's reputation. The Warisan ADUNs from Sandakan emphasize that this issue is a test of the people's trust in the national institutions.
