MEDIA STATEMENT: MARCH 27, 2026, ON BEHALF OF 8 WARISAN SABAH ASSEMBLY MEMBERS REGARDING THE SUBMISSION OF A MEMORANDUM TO THE MALAYSIAN ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION (MACC) ON THE SABAH MINING SCANDAL

Today, we, the Members of the Sabah State Assembly from the Warisan Party, have submitted an official memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kota Kinabalu.

The submission of this memorandum was also carried out simultaneously by the Assembly Members from the Sandakan area led by YB Calvin Chong and the Assembly Members from the Tawau area led by YB Justin Wong.

This memorandum carries a clear demand — the MACC must provide a full explanation regarding the delay in the investigation of other individuals involved in the Sabah Mining Scandal.

To date, what concerns us is the prolonged silence from the MACC regarding the progress of the investigation. The last official statement was made by the Chief Commissioner of the MACC, Tan Sri Azam Baki, in November 2025.

Prior to that, extensive reports indicated that at least 15 individuals were implicated, including high-profile political figures. However, to this day, only a few individuals have been charged.

This raises a very serious question:

Why have only some been charged, while the evidence presented is claimed to be uniform and consistent?

Since November 2024, Malaysians—especially the people of Sabah—have witnessed video after video revealing allegations of abuse of power involving politicians, including allegations of receiving bribes in exchange for the approval of mining licenses.

This scandal is not small.

It is among the largest corruption scandals to ever shake the state of

Sabah.

More concerning, a dossier exceeding 300 pages—containing videos, money flows, bank records, and supporting documents—has already been submitted to the MACC. Yet, to this day, action has only been taken against a small fraction of those alleged to be involved.

Furthermore, when issues regarding the authenticity of the videos arose, a group of lawyers, Lawyers for Liberty, submitted new unedited videos to refute those allegations.

Thus, the question remains:

What is the actual status of the investigation?
Is everyone being investigated fairly and thoroughly?

This delay has led to a very concerning situation — individuals linked to this scandal can still be appointed to public positions.

This is unacceptable.

It is an affront to the principles of integrity and public trust.

We wish to emphasize that our demands are simple and reasonable:

The MACC must disclose the investigation results transparently;

No one should be protected on the grounds of position or influence;

All individuals with sufficient evidence must be brought to justice without favoritism.

The people of Sabah have the right to answers. The people of Sabah have the right to justice.

If this situation continues, the perception of selective prosecution will only deepen and undermine public confidence in enforcement institutions.

We would like to remind that the responsibility to restore this confidence lies with the MACC.

We will continue to monitor this matter seriously and will not hesitate to take follow-up action if there are no satisfactory developments.

The people of Sabah are watching.
The truth must be upheld.
Justice must be served.

That is all, thank you.
