On February 9, a Facebook page named Sabah First Info uploaded a short video believed to have been recorded by a resident in the Simunul area, Semporna, Sabah. In the video, the recorder is asking for help to resolve the issue of the collapsed bridge. However, the page included a caption that could provoke negative assumptions, "Where is the YB who won there, gone?" which is said to be sourced from netizens.
Based on posts on Facebook by YB Tuan Haji Jamil Bin Datuk Haji Hamzah, the ADUN N.66 Bugaya, he expressed concern over this issue. On February 7, 2026, he uploaded a post stating that he had visited the Kampung Simunul Lorong 5 bridge, which was reported to be on the verge of collapse. In the post, he promised to find the best way to repair the jetty and bridge for the safety of the local residents.
However, on the same day, he announced the bad news that the bridge he visited had collapsed. He promised to take immediate action so that this incident would not disrupt the daily affairs of the residents, especially students who use the bridge to get to school.
On February 13, 2026, a Facebook user inquired about the status of assistance for the bridge in Kampung Simunul, which was claimed to still have no action taken. YB Jamil responded that construction work was in progress and asked for prayers that everything would be made easier.
The villagers were reminded to be patient as YB was working to help resolve the issue of the collapsed bridge. The media was also advised not to provoke negative views that could disrupt the ongoing assistance process.
