PRESS STATEMENT: Shafie Apdal Visits Fire Victims in Kampung Bahagia and Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS)
SANDAKAN, April 20, 2026 - At 8:30 AM, the President of the Warisan Party, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, arrived at the fire incident site in Kampung Bahagia to personally assess the situation of the affected victims and evaluate the extent of damage suffered by the residents due to the incident.
Although the village area was still filled with smoke from the fire, he continued the visit as a sign of concern and commitment to stand with the people facing difficult times. His presence also boosted the morale of the local residents affected by the tragedy.
Accompanying him on the visit were leaders of the Warisan Party, namely YB Alias Hj. Sani (ADUN N53 Sekong), YB Calvin Chong (ADUN N55 Elopura), YB Alex Wong (ADUN N54 Karamunting), YB Lisa Alban (ADUN N52 Sungai Sibuga), and a representative of YB Alex Thien (ADUN N56 Tanjong Papat). The collective presence of the party leadership reflects the spirit of togetherness and concern for the plight of the people affected by the disaster.
Throughout the visit, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and his entourage surveyed the severely affected areas, witnessing the homes that were destroyed by the fire and the environment that has yet to fully recover. He also took the time to interact with the fire victims, listening to their grievances and gathering information regarding their immediate needs.
After visiting the incident site, he also went to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) to assess the condition of the victims housed there. During the visit, he had the opportunity to meet with affected families, offering words of encouragement and ensuring that their welfare is given due attention.
He expressed his sympathy and sorrow for the plight of the residents of Kampung Bahagia and hoped that all victims would be granted patience and strength in facing this heavy trial. According to him, disasters like this require immediate attention from all parties so that assistance can be delivered without delay.
The leadership of the Warisan Party also urged government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private companies, and the public to come forward to provide assistance to the victims, particularly in terms of temporary housing, food supplies, clothing, basic necessities, and financial aid to alleviate their burden.
He emphasized that the welfare of the people is always a priority and the Warisan Party will continue to monitor current developments from time to time. All forms of assistance that can be coordinated will be pursued so that the victims are not left to face hardship alone.
His presence along with the leadership of the Warisan Party at the fire site and PPS not only conveys a message of solidarity but also serves as proof that compassionate leadership is always present with the people, especially during critical and needy times.
